Ouch. The price of wheat (flour) really did double. It's $34 for a 50-lb. bag now, instead of $17.

Ouch, ouch, ouch.

I really didn't need to buy another 50lb bag yet, so I didn't, but I can't see that it will get any better. Luckily, I did find a bag of unbleached bread flour with the old price on it, so I did get some. But ouch.

How hard would it be really to grow my own wheat for flour, I wonder? It would sure be cheaper in the long run. Hmm.

I'm tempted by that, too (stopped by the total lack of garden space that isn't already devoted to something else). I'd want rye and oats too, but I think they sell those all at the local Bassett's, if nothing else.

yeah, I'd want rye and oats as well. There's a hulless oats that I almost bought (it's a ground cover, too) but I ended up not buying it.

Maybe I'll experiment more next year. I did buy some wheat berries to try and see if they are sproutable. I may plant a test section. We'll see.
