I've always been fascinated by tapestries, especially medieval ones, but I really don't have enough patience to do one of my own.

A while back, I had this idea to do a wallhanging style quilt, but like a tapestry. I could use up some of my fabric, and it would look cool (hopefully) and maybe I'd have something else to craft regularly, depending on how the first one turned out. And I have this spot in my hallway that is just begging for a wallhanging.

So this afternoon, I looked through a couple of design books that I have, just to get some ideas, and I thought about the types of medieval dress I like, and I wondered just how hard it would be to do something like this. After coming up with a picture, I started cutting out pattern pieces.

So far, here's what I have:

You can't see her neck very well, but it's there, and I still have to cut out her skirt, obviously. The shapes themselves are pretty simple; I'm hoping that the fabric I use (I'm not sure what yet; she is waffling between being some sort of enchantress or a princess-type) will make up for the simplicity. Or even be enhanced by it.

I'm planning to use cashmere for her skin, and she will probably be both appliqued and quilted. We'll see how she ends up. At the very least, I'll have an interesting experiment; at the very most, I'll find a new craft and have a nice wallhanging for my hallway.

I know I said I wouldn't be doing much until March, but this is essentially for me. So far.
