Yes, I'm supposed to be working on Scarecrows. But this happens sometimes; a character shows up, and the backstory is just too interesting to write.
ETA @ 4:46pm: Currently 10,014 words. This is fun to write. If it's longer than a novella, I'll be surprised, but it might surprise me. Even so, it's a nice addition to the Mess.
