Oatmeal and Tea

There's something so simple, so pure
about putting the kettle on for tea and supper--
water steams as you pour from kettle to teapot,
over leaves that waken and grace you with flavor and warmth.

Supper, three handfuls of oats in your favorite bowl,
again, the kettle, pouring water, a dollop of maple syrup.
One handful of almonds. By the time you carry it to the table,
it's ready. How much closer to instant can that possibly be?

What better to write a poem about? This is wonderful.
