I just don't get it. I really don't. This kind of attitude reminds me of the librarians I used to work with who would pull the "I'm better than you; I have a degree and you don't" line. It bothered me then, and it bothers me now.

There are some really narrow-minded people out there, and it seems quite a few of them belong to the "exalted" ranks of "professional" authors. I have no respect for any of them. That kind of attitude isn't professional; it's petty.

For what it's worth, I liked the same quote Bryn liked, but I didn't agree with the article as a whole. (Although I don't feel very battered and bloody right now.) But isn't that the same with every creative (and not-so-creative) pursuit?
