Okay, so this Sweet & Spicy Lentil Chili has molasses in it, and allspice (which I didn't have; I used a combination of cloves and cinnamon) and apple juice (I used chunks of apples, because again, no apple juice in the house.) And I thought, boy is this going to taste weird.

It also called for two tablespoons of chili powder--I put in three teaspoons, thinking that would be too many.

Green peppers, lentils, it called for a can of tomatoes and I just chopped up some slow roasted tomatoes (I will definitely do those again next year. I'm considering trying to slow roast my frozen tomatoes and see what happens, since I'm on my last bag of slow roasted tomatoes), it called for both onion and garlic, but I just used garlic.

I had a bowl full for supper. Delicious! Flavorful without being overpowering, and not hot at all. I could really taste the cloves--not so much the cinnamon--but the flavors together were just fabulous. I could see putting mushrooms in this, or even ground turkey. (Which would, of course, make it non-vegetarian (it's from a vegetarian cookbook.)

But yum. I will definitely make that again. Yum yum yum.

Ooh, that sounds yummy (except for the molasses), and I don't even like chili generally!

I've been trying out more vegetarian recipes (I can grow most of what I need, after all, which is good!) and this one looked really yummy.

In fact, the whole book looks good--it's Vegetarian Slow Cooker Recipes or something like that.

You can't even taste the molasses. I'm sure you could substitute for something else, for that matter!
